History
Since
1998, officers of Redeemer Presbyterian Church had considered
a variety of options for establishing
a school. In late 2001, the church focused its efforts on establishing
a Christian school that would be financially and academically
accessible to a broad range of families throughout Austin. In
early 2002, after continued discussion and prayerful consideration,
Redeemer’s Session (elders) appointed an initial Board
of Directors for City School, and in September 2002, City School
opened.
The
Session
chose the name “City School” because it evokes the
Augustinian concept of the City of God and reflects the church’s
mission in bringing God’s transforming power to the City
of Man. Foundational to all that City School seeks to accomplish
is the historic Christian faith as revealed in the Bible, summarized
in the Westminster Standards, and confessed in the Nicene Creed.
